How We Got On, the second installment in the 2012 Humana Festival of New American Plays begins its run tonight at Actors Theatre.

The story will take many Gen-X’ers on a blast from the past as it follows three Midwestern teens finding their way through the tumultuous period in their lives by immersing themselves in a burgeoning hip-hop music culture.

The playwright, Idris Goodwin, is an award-winning hip hop lyricist and poet, who has appeared on HBO’s Def Poetry, The Discovery Channel, and Sesame Street. He is an adjunct professor of playwriting at Northwestern University.

How We Got On is in open-to-the-public ticketed previews through Saturday. Sunday’s 2:30 pm opening performance begins a run which ends April 1.

The dates and times of performances can be found here.

Tickets to this show and other festival performances can be purchased by calling the box office at 502-584-1205 or online. Many Humana Festival ticket options are available, including single-show and multi-show packages.
