Rajon Rondo was dropping dimes this past week.

The Louisville native and former University of Kentucky standout point guard averaged 12.7 assists - to raise his league-leading total to 11.8 per game - for the Boston Celtics.

Here’s a closer look at how he and a trio of University of Louisville products on NBA rosters did in the third week of the season.

Rondo (Boston Celtics): The ninth-year pro had six points, a season-high 16 assists and eight rebounds in Boston’s 122-121 loss to Cleveland this past Friday night. He was 3 for 10 from the field and had three steals and three turnovers in 31 minutes against LeBron & Co.

Three nights later Rondo recorded 14 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in the Celtics’ 118-114 loss to Phoenix. He was 6 for 10 from the field, but only 2 of 10 from the free throw line, and had five turnovers against one steal in 33 minutes.

Then Wednesday night Rondo had nine points, 13 assists and five rebounds in Boston’s 101-90 victory over host Philadelphia. He was 3 for 5 from the field, including 1 of 2 from 3-point range, and 2 of 4 from the free throw line. He also had six turnovers and two steals in 30 minutes.

For the season Rondo is averaging 10.4 points, eight rebounds and 11.8 assists for the Celtics (4-6), who reportedly are unwilling to trade him.

Gorgui Dieng (Minnesota Timberwolves): The second-year center from UofL is coming off a very productive week.

Dieng (pictured above) scored seven points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds in his first start of the season in Minnesota’ 139-91 loss at New Orleans last Friday night. He was 1 for 2 from the field and 5 of 8 from the free throw line. Dieng also dished out two assists and blocked one shot while committing four turnovers in 29 minutes.

The next night he had 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds in Minnesota’s 131-117 loss at Dallas on Saturday night. He was 5 for 9 from the field and 2 of 2 from the free throw line. Dieng also blocked one shot and dished out one assist while committing two turnovers in 26 minutes.

He closed out his week with a stat-stuffing performance in the T-Wolves’ 115-99 win over the New York Knicks on Wednesday night. Dieng scored eight points, grabbed seven rebounds, recorded five steals and dished out four assists in his second start of the season. He was 4 for 7 from the field and had one blocked shot and two turnovers in 32 minutes.

Dieng is averaging eight points and 6.9 rebounds per game for Minnesota (3-7).

Francisco Garcia (Houston Rockets): The 10th-year swingman from UofL is averaging 2.2 points per game in a reserve role for the Rockets (9-3).

He played a season-high 13 minutes, although he went scoreless, in Houston’s 88-87 win over visiting Philadelphia last Friday night. Garcia was 0-for-5 from the field but did have two steals to go along with two turnovers.

He followed that up with six points in 13 minutes in the Rockets’ 69-65 win at Oklahoma City two nights later. Garcia was 2 for 7 from the field, including 2 of 6 from 3-point range, and 0 of 1 from the free throw line. He also had one rebound, one blocked shot and one steal.

He then went scoreless in one minute in Houston’s 119-93 loss at Memphis on Monday night.

Garcia then tallied three points in 11 minutes in the Rockets’ 98-92 loss to the visiting Lakers on Wednesday night. He was 1 for 4 from 3-point range and had one rebound, one assist, one steal, one blocked shot and two turnovers.

Russ Smith (New Orleans Pelicans): The rookie guard from UofL was inactive for the Pelicans’ three games this past week, which included their 139-91 win over Minnesota last Friday night, their 102-93 loss at Portland on Monday and their 106-100 win at Sacramento on Tuesday night.

So far this season Smith has played in only one game for New Orleans (6-4).
