Calling all literary folks in and around Louisville! Come celebrate literature and the craft of writing with panels, guest talks, craft workshops, and readings in the thriving neighborhood of NuLu. The Writer’s Block Festival on November 15th is not only a great way to connect with like-minded individuals around the city, but also to support local writers.

The Writer’s Block Festival is hosted by Louisville Literary Arts, an organization centered on enriching “the literary life of Louisville." This free event begins with registration at the Green Building at 8:30 a.m. Panels and workshops start at 9:15 a.m. and run continuously at various businesses and galleries along Market Street until 4:00 p.m. The festival continues at the Cressman Center at 5:00 p.m. It is important to note that while the event itself is free, the small craft workshops are available for a fee of $25. All workshops are limited to 15 people; Louisville Literary Arts recommends that participants pre-register to reserve their place.

The workshops and panels all have clever, tantalizing titles, like "Anatomy of Humor," "Crafting the Literary Lie," and "A Writeable Feast." They touch on all forms of writing: fiction and nonfiction, poetry and drama. Each panel will discuss its respective element of writing, while workshops are aimed at refining the participants’ word-crafting skills. For more information on the panels and their presenters, go here. For more on the workshops and registration, go here.

At 5:00, poet and memoirist Nick Flynn will read at the Cressman Center. Flynn is a guest of the University of Louisville's Anne and William Axton Reading Series. This reading is free, but seating is limited and available on a first come first serve basis. The Writer's Block Festival also welcomes Steve Wasserman, editor-at-large for Yale University Press, to speak. All other readers are local and regional. The books of participating authors are available at Carmichael’s Bookstore.

There is an after party following Flynn’s reading in the basement bar of Decca Restaurant.

    About Rebecca Ball

As great lover of books and adventure, I grew up wanting to be anywhere else. I satiated some my wanderlust in the castles and expansive forests in Europe over the past few years. Now, I live in the city that will always be home with a cat who thinks she's a person.
