Made of a woven vinyl-coated polyester mesh, the screens fit on your home’s exterior wall and can block 90-97 percent of light — and heat gain — while still maintaining the view. Protect valuable antiques, artwork, wood flooring, window treatments and Oriental rugs from sun-fading with this window film, designed to block all of the UV rays, 50 percent of damaging heat and 59 percent of visible light — the three biggest factors behind fade. Applied to the inside of the glass, the distortion-free film can be washed with any non-abrasive window cleaner and carries a lifetime warranty on the film, a three-year warranty against seal failure and a five-year warranty against glass breakage.

Create a shady spot on your deck or patio and keep the sun from beating into your great room with a custom retractable awning from Fitzsimmons. Made from your choice of Sunbrella or similar fabrics with five-year warranties against fading and rot, the awnings can be mounted from the roof, wall or soffit; can project up to 12 feet from the house; and can be any width. Options include motorized retraction, sun sensors that automatically open the awning on sunny days, and wind sensors that retract the awning during potentially damaging gusts. Allow three weeks for fabrication.
