We are in the full swing of Christmas and holiday events now. Your kids are probably full of bundles of energy. The forecast for the weekend looks pretty promising, so what is there to do to keep the kids and your family occupied this Saturday and Sunday? Here’s a breakdown by area:

    Downtown Louisville

At Kentucky Museum of Art & Craft, there are always drop-in workshops going on and the MakerSpace area is open for making artsy creations. This weekend, the MakerSpace Weekend MakeShops include making felt circle garlands, wintry luminaries, and snowflake mobiles. These programs are guided by a KMAC artist and occur every Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Call 502-589-0102 for questions. KMAC is located at 715 West Main Street.

    East End

Cookies, brunch, crafts, pictures with the jolly old elf. This weekend is packed with places to go see Santa and have that perfect, or in some cases not so perfect, photo taken. The Northeast YMCA is hosting an event on Saturday, December 13, 9am-11am. The Main YMCA of Greater Louisville page also says they are having cookies with Santa at various times.

If you like to shop holiday bazaars, check out the one at Jeffersontown High School on Saturday, December 13 from 9am-3pm. It’s located at Old Six Mile Lane.

    West End

Why not check out Good Garbage: Creative Reuse Center down in the Portland neighborhood this weekend? They have open art options and on Saturdays (from 11am-2pm) they usually have crafting sessions where you drop in and make anything you’d like. Right now they are hosting homemade, recycled ornament making for the holiday season. It’s free;  they just ask that you bring a donation when you come. Current hours are Wednesday-Friday 12pm-6pm, Saturdays 10am-3pm. They are located at 2020 Duncan Street.

    South Louisville

If you’re into live nativity scenes for Christmas, check out the one happening all weekend long at Okolona Christian Church off of Preston Highway. It will be December 12-14, from 6:30pm-9pm. They will have a live nativity, free cookies, and hot chocolate and some caroling as well. The church is located at 10801 Faithful Way, 40229.

    NuLu

At Local Speed this Saturday, December 13, they are hosting another one of their free family art activity days. They are having a Holiday Ornament Bar; it’s a drop in activity from 11:30am-3:30pm. Get some local shopping done while you’re in NuLu as well! Local Speed is located at 822 East Market Street.

    Oldham County

I’d love to see the holiday trains exhibit and festivities set up at Yew Dell Gardens in LaGrange. It’s happening again this weekend, December 13 and 14. Enjoy the model train exhibit, snow village, scavenger hunt, visits with Santa, and shopping. The event is free with paid admission to the gardens. The activities will also be held on December 20 and 21. Saturday hours are 10am-4pm; Sunday hours are 12pm-4pm. Santa visits from noon-4pm each event day. Yew Dell Gardens is located at 6220 Old LaGrange Road.

    Southern Indiana

Check out some holiday theater at Derby Dinner Playhouse this weekend. The theater is showing productions of A Wonderful Life and for children and families, The Most Famous Reindeer of All this weekend. Show times for A Wonderful Life are 1pm and 6pm throughout the weekend; for the children’s show, times are 10am for the breakfast show and 1pm for the lunch show on Saturday, December 13.  Ticket information can be found here, or you can call the box office at 812-288-8281.
