Instead of lighting a firecracker and losing a finger or two on the Fourth of July, maybe you should just watch a Firecracker.
The Firecracker Handicap that is.
The Grade II turf race, which marks the return of 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird to Churchill Downs, highlights Sunday's final day of the 42-day Spring Meet at the Central Ave. track.
An 11-race card begins at 12:45 p.m. and in appreciation of fans general admission is free and hot dogs and beer will be $1 all day. Because it's Sunday beer sales won't begin until 1 p.m.
In addition to Mine That Bird you can see if Calvin Borel clinches his first Spring Meet rider title and if Steve Asmussen and Maggi Moss can cap off trainer and owner titles, respectively.
