Instead of lighting a firecracker and losing a finger or two on the Fourth of July, maybe you should just watch a Firecracker.
The Firecracker Handicap [4] that is.
The Grade II turf race, which marks the return of 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird to Churchill Downs, highlights Sunday's final day of the 42-day Spring Meet at the Central Ave. track.
An 11-race card begins at 12:45 p.m. and in appreciation of fans general admission is free and hot dogs and beer will be $1 all day [5]. Because it's Sunday beer sales won't begin until 1 p.m.
In addition to Mine That Bird you can see if Calvin Borel clinches his first Spring Meet rider title and if Steve Asmussen and Maggi Moss [6]can cap off trainer and owner titles, respectively.
