It’s my favorite time of year. The time when the Girl Scout Cookies we ordered, what seems oh so long ago, get delivered. And I’m reunited with my Samoas. This year is extra sweet because my beloved Samoas turn 40.
Happy Birthday to the silky caramel and nutty, toasted coconut of cookie perfection. No wonder this cookie has four decades of staying power with caramel that’s cooked the old-fashion way, in copper kettles heated to exactly 234 degrees. It takes 2.5 million pounds of coconut each year to create the iconic fringe exterior.
Come celebrate Samoas 40th year this Wednesday, February 25 at the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana’s culinary competition, Desserts First. This foodie lover’s dream event will feature chefs from Louisville’s top restaurants creating delectable desserts, hor d’oeurves and cocktails using Girl Scout Cookies.
Desserts First is a fundraising event that provides funds for programs and activities for girls in the 64 county service area of the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana. This is a 21 and over event, and will feature a live DJ, dancing, photo booth and 40th birthday celebration of Kentucky’s favorite cookie -- Samoas.
While supplies last, buy one $55.00 ticket and get one free. You and your foodie partner can experience all the Girl Scout Cookie dishes for only $27.50 each.
