The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint is a six furlong race over the dirt for two-year-olds. The purse is $500,000. This is race 5 on the program, but the first Breeders’ Cup on Friday’s card. Post time is 4:10 p.m.
Secret Circle is the obvious favorite with a morning line of 6-5. This Bob Baffert runner is undefeated in two lifetime starts and has twice earned a Brisnet speed figure of 103. That’s pretty fast for a two-year-old. He has two notable works: five furlongs in :58 and four furlongs in :46. He won the Jack Goodman Stakes in his last start, but has never attempted a graded stakes.
Trinniberg is the Bisnath Parboo-trained runner that was supplemented to this race. That says a lot of the connections will pay $100K to get him here. He’s finished in the money in four lifetime starts and second in his last two starts—the Grade 1 Hopeful and the Grade 2 Nashua—by ¾ lengths. His morning line is 9-2.
This really seems to be Secret Circle’s race to lose, but either of these two is likely. My longshot play is Tom Amoss’s 15-1 Sum Of The Parts. He had a bullet work last week, has made three stakes appearances—including the Grade 3 Sapling and Grade 3 Bashford Manor. He prefers to run on the front end, which should benefit him in this sprint.
I’ll likely box these three in an exacta and throw some money straight on Sum Of The Parts to win.
