Louisville Metro Government is offering immunization clinics for anyone interested in obtaining the H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine. The clinics will operate four days a week from Jan. 4-22 and will be by appointment only. Both the nasal flu mist and the injection forms of the vaccine will be available. Clinic locations and times: Urban Government Center810 Barret Avenue Mondays: 12-7 p.m. Wednesdays, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Middletown Fire Station108 Urton Lane Tuesdays: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays: 12-7 p.m. Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Station4500 Kerrick Lane: Tuesdays: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays: 12-7 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call the local H1N1 hotline at 502-568-4161 Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Children 9 and younger who have received their first H1N1 immunization will be able to get the booster at these clinics. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.People can help to alleviate clinic waiting time by downloading vaccine information statements and consent forms (Editor's note: I assume that link is to the proper form; the press release said to download the form, but did not include a URL) and by filling the forms out ahead of time and bringing them to the clinic.People also are urged to wear either short-sleeved or sleeveless shirts--something that gives nurses quick and easy access to the arm.Metro Public Health and Wellness also is making H1N1 vaccine for the general public available at all Family Health Center sites. Family Health Center Portland is operating walk-in H1N1 clinics for those 18 years of age and older on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.For more information: H1N1 shots go great with French toast.Photo: Flickr/Latente 囧 www.latente.it
