I haven't been a longtime Guided by Voices fan, but in my heart I definitely feel like one. Just a few months ago the band stopped through the Southgate House and Bloomington on their reunion tour, teasingly skimming over Louisville and excluding younger fans with their consistant 21+ shows. Fortunately for us, we won't have to wait for a Boston Spaceships tour to see the face of Robert Pollard in our cozy city. Come January 15th, the classic lineup of Guided by Voices will be gracing Headliners Music Hall; all attendees should expect to be involved in a rare and exciting experience.
The most common trait associated with Guided by Voices is being prolific. Brief, jangly pop songs, usually sounding like they were recorded on a tape player, and the diverse vocabulary of Pollard's songwriting are all part of the unique concoction that makes up their records. From being active through '83 to 2004, the band released 16 studio albums and extended plays, 7 soundtracks, 4 box sets and several other mediums of releases. Pollard, the band's main creative force, also claims his own discography of solo work, including 3 albums done with his other band Boston Spaceships.
Fans of this cult band will already understand the caliber of importance that comes along with seeing a reunion show like this. Seriously, don't miss out!
