Since 2005, over half a million dollars has been awarded to over 100 community groups through the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement mini-grant program. Healthy Hometown grants have been used to develop programs for all ages and families including cooking classes, community garden development and distribution, physical activity sessions and building exercise into core educational and recreational programming.
Now, the 2015 mini-grant program is open for applications. Awards will range from $7,500 to $10,000, focusing on programs that support activities included in the Healthy Louisville 2020 Plan.
Nonprofit corporations qualified to do business in the Commonwealth of Kentucky are invited to read the application guidelines for the mini-grants and apply.
Focus areas include:
Healthy Homes and Healthy Neighborhoods
Healthy Mothers and Healthy Babies
Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods
Mental and Behavioral Health
Obesity Prevention
Social Determinants of Health
Substance Abuse Prevention
“The Healthy Hometown mini-grants have brought opportunities for physical activity and healthy eating to neighborhoods throughout our city,” said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer in a statement. “I encourage local organizations who want to get involved in the work of building a healthier Louisville to apply for a grant.”
Applications must be received at the Department of Public Health and Wellness at 400 E. Gray St. by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8.
