June 24-25. Take it to the hoop for a good cause. In its 19th year, Street Ball Showdown has grown to become the area’s largest outdoor amateur basketball event. More than 50,000 spectators and 2,500 ballers turn out to help support the Cabbage Patch Settlement House, a non-profit organization that assists disadvantaged families through counseling, tutoring, after-school activities and other enrichment programs.
Play is three-on-three and open to both genders in multiple divisions, ages eight and up. The action takes place Saturday, 8:30 a.m.- 6:30 p.m., and Sunday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m., on the corner of Witherspoon and Preston streets near Waterfront Park.
