What better way to spend part of your day in our recession-challenged world than to find some low-cost entertainment? Henry's Ark was created out of a passion for animals and is run entirely on donations.

It seems that not a ton of people even realize that Henry's Ark is located in Prospect. I'd heard about the place from my sister-in-law and my local Oldham County news circular and figured it would be a great place for my fiance and I to take my 6- and 4-year-old nieces. Entering the place you'll likely be greated by the magnificant bird shown at the top of this article. Although it took me several tries to capture it from the front, my patience paid off. Not a bad looking watch bird if I do say so myself.

You pretty much have free reign to tour at your own pace and I'd advise bringing a bag of carrots, because it's a great way to get up close and personal with the many types of animals that they have there. We saw bison, deer, ostrich, ducks and they even have a baby emu. Although there is not a set admission fee, leavw a donation because it's not often you'll find a place that is not a zoo which allows such open access to some of these amazing animals. Help keep Henry's dream alive and add it to your list of summer activities. I'm sure you won't regret it.
