Back-to-school digs have been in store fronts since heat waves of over 110+ degrees but soon enough the leaves will be turning and so will your wardrobe.
While this is actually the first year since age 6 I will not be returning to a classroom, I'm going ga-ga over school-inspired fashions. The prep look is abounding, and it's time to pile on the plaid, cover with a cardigan and lace up those boots!
I'm loving classic looks by Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger this year. Check out the fun tailgate spread Hilfiger used for his fall campaign. You may have not had a prep-school life but fake it like a pro with a classic turtleneck, trench, pencil skirt and banded knee-high socks. You'll look perfectly polished and laid back. For a casual twist leave shirt-tails showing under sweaters, and roll up the sleeves over your pushed up sweater sleeve.
Snag a pair of solid matte tights to keep your legs warm while wearing a skirt. It adds interest to an outfit while serving a practical purpose. And don't shy away from colored tights like maroon, hunter green, or even rusted orange. Even more, layer those tights with some great knee high socks and boots. Just let the sock barely peek from the boot, you don't need too much to distract from your overall look.
Keep your make-up minimal and matte when carrying this look. Earth tones on your face will complete the fall palette of warm browns, rusted orange, hunter green, navy blue, and deep plums and reds.
Combinations of such are perfect for work, a dinner around Louisville with friends, or meeting his parents...because everyone loves a classic lady.
