It's just about Earth Day, and that means the Louisville Zoo is once again putting up poop for sale. But, it is the best kind of poop--the composted kind! Compost is key in reducing erosion, increasing water retainment, and enriching the soil in gardens and yards.
The Louisville Zoo is calling on urban gardeners to come by and haul a load off April 2, 9, and 16. Quality hardwood bark mulch that fills up a small pick-up truck bed costs $25 and mulch that fills up a medium pick-up truck bed costs $45. Compost is $35 a scoop (a little less than a cubic yard), but pretty exotic, being a mixture of hay, straw, wood shavings and manure from Zoo hoof stock--in other words elephants, rhinos, and camels, oh my!
The Zoo Poopy Doo sale is part of the Zoo's Month-Long Celebration of the Earth: Party for the Planet. They are asking that people park their truck (open beds and trailers, please) near the flagpole, make their purchase at the ticket windows where you normally pay for zoo admission, then collect their purchases in the second tier of the bus parking lot.
I don't know about you, but I can't wait to tell somebody how one of those circus giraffes got loose in my flower bed.
