Shively has been a part of Kentucky and a suburb of Louisville for over 200 years. Over 15,000 residents call this part of Jefferson County home.

We caught up with Mayor Sherry Connor to see what her thoughts are about this little city within a big city and what’s in store for this part of Southwestern Jefferson County.

LDC: What is your history with the city of Shively?

SC: With the exception of a short period of time I have lived in Shively since 3rd grade. I attended Schaffner elementary and Butler high schools. I graduated in 1973. I have been mayor since December 20th of 2004.

LDC: Describe Shively in one word:
    SC:  Prideful!

LDC: Something about Shively that not many people know?

SC:  People that have lived here a long time love this City and want it to remain the same as when they purchased their homes in the early '50s. Times have changed and unfortunately not always for the best but citizens still remain hopefully.

LDC: In your tenure as mayor, what event/accomplishment have you been the most proud of?

SC:  Our larger park has been given a serious facelift with new playground equipment and we created a walking path. I am very proud of the use the park now gets with kids and their parents.

LDC:  Shively would be best known for?

SC:  Unfortunately, probably the most infamous scandal was w/ a previous police chief and that he served time b/c of it.

LDC:  What’s in store for Shively in terms of developments, planning and growth, etc?

SC:  The Shively Center (old Dillard's location) is taking on a whole new concept for Shively w/ Norton's Healthcare coming this year. A new funeral home at Memorial Gardens West, Comfort Inn recently remodeled, Holiday Inn just completed major remodeling project, Byerly Ford is expanding their business, Bob Evans coming to Shively Center in 2009.

    Business Spotlight: Shively Center

Best Cup of Coffee: Sweets and Such Bakery

Best Happy Hour Location: Texas Roadhouse

Best Home Cooked Meal: Granny's Apron

Best Place to Escape And Be Inspired: Shively Park

Most Quaint little shop: None at this time but we are hopeful!

LDC:  Hee's your chance to brag.
SC:We are a small city but still close enough to the larger city of Louisville. And we are open for business! We have full service staffs.....police, fire, city hall, code enforcement and works/sanitation department. Other areas of Metro Louisville/Jefferson County have to pay extra to have their recycling and yard waste collected and we do it all for them. Ours is all for one price. We try to assist folks as much as possible and whenever possible with concerns and issues they have. Thanks for the opportunity to highlight Shively as it is a great
    little city.
