The Friends of the Waterfront (FOTW), a non-profit auxiliary arm of the Waterfront Development Corporation, will host their 18th annual Silver Anchor Award Celebration on Wednesday September 16th at 5:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Museum of Art & Craft (715 W Main Street). FOTW will honor Sandra Frazier for her work toward and contributions to the Lincoln Memorial in Waterfront Park, and Milton Metz for his broad and influential support of the Louisville Waterfront Master Plan in its early stages.
Sandra Frazier has been a strong supporter of the Louisville Waterfront Park for many years and was instrumental to the completion of the Lincoln Memorial at Waterfront Park. In addition to a generous financial contribution, Sandra provided invaluable planning and public relations support for the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial, which took place on June 4, 2009. Sandra provided her own professional expertise as well as the pro-bono services of her firm, Tandem Public Relations, to assist with the event. The Memorial’s 2.5 acre site honors Lincoln’s connection to Kentucky and demonstrates his abhorrence of slavery, which he realized as a young man while standing on the banks of the Ohio River in Louisville. A 12 foot sculpture of Lincoln seated on a rock, looking out over the Ohio River is the focal point of the site, as well as four bas reliefs that portray different stages of Lincoln's life and experiences in Kentucky. The Memorial is part of the Kentucky’s Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration.
Milton Metz is one of the most widely recognized broadcast personalities in the Louisville area from his top rated radio call in show “Metz Here,” a public opinion phone in program which aired on Clear Channel Radio Station 84 WHAS for over thirty years between 1959-1993. Milton Metz was an early and ardent supporter of the Louisville Waterfront Master Plan. During the early stages of planning for Waterfront Park in the late 1980’s, in addition to his frequent comments on his radio program, Milton hosted an live television call in program to answer questions from the public about plans for the park. This was an extraordinarily successful outreach to the community and is largely credited with the early success of the Waterfront Park.
