After Felix Perez homered for the Louisville Bats to give them a 1-0 in the top of the third inning, the Rochester Red Wings showed some offensive muscle of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The Red Wings sent ten men to the plate, got seven hits, and scored four runs to help power themselves to a 5-3 win over the Bats.

The Red Wings took the four game series from the Bats. It is the Red Wings first four-game series win of the season and their first home series victory against the Bats since 2004.

The Bats fell to 13-30 on the season. That gives them the worst record in all of Triple-A baseball. The next closest are the Pacific Coast League’s Tucson Padres, who have a record of 13-28.

Louisville starter Jeff Francis had another rough outing, giving up four runs on eight hits over five innings of work. In four starts in the month of May, Francis is 0-3 with a 5.84 ERA. Francis has given up at least eight hits in all four of his May starts.

Perez had a good game for the Bats as he went 3-for-4. His homer in the third was his first of the season. Cody Puckett also continued to impress. He went 1-for-3 with a walk and was stellar defensively in left field.

The Bats had an opportunity in the ninth to tie the game. Trailing 5-3, Perez singled and Puckett walked to lead off the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate. Kristopher Negron, who was pinch hitting for Danny Dorn, grounded into a fielder’s choice to move Perez to third. Perez would score on Miguel Rojas’ sacrifice fly. That brought up Dioner Navarro, who grounded out on the first pitch he saw to end the game.

The Bats travel to Lehigh Valley Saturday to begin a four game series before an off day next Wednesday. Sean Gallagher (2-3, 6.08 ERA) will be on the mound for the Bats against Austin Hyatt (2-3, 4.10 ERA). It is a rematch of the game one of the double header the teams played on May 14, a game in which the Bats won 5-1. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
