It might be Fat Tuesday, but here in Louisville it's Forecastle Tuesday, as the city's largest music festival unveils their 2014 line-up...

This is clearly the largest roster in Forecastle's history headlined this year by Outkast, Jack White, Beck, and The Replacements.

The show will also be featuring the likes of Spoon, Band of Horses, Ray LaMontagne, Nickel Creek, Dwight Yoakam, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and Gary Clark Jr.

Besides an always strong main stage line-up, one of the festival's biggest draws tends to be the young musicians who get an opportunity to play on Forecastle's 2nd and 3rd stages.  This year the under card of up-and-coming artists is equally as strong as their headliners, featuring solid names like:  Jason Isbell, Jenny Lewis, Trampled by Turtles, J.J. Grey & Mofro, Against Me!, Sun Kil Moon.

And majorly exciting news on the local music front, the line-up also appears to include a reunited Slint, as well as Spanish Gold, Patrick Hallahan from My Morning Jacket's latest side-project.

2014 Forecastle Music, Art, and Activism Festival will take place on the waterfront in downtown Louisville, July 18th-20th.

Forecastle began in 2002, with the seeds planted here in local soil, by Louisvillian J.K. McKnight.  After years of consistent growth in the wake of back breaking work from McKnight, in 2011 Forecastle Festival merged with Ashley Capps Entertainment, the company that puts on Bonnaroo every year, just outside of Nashville.  This partnership has allowed Forecastle to grow exponentially in resources and artist relations, can be seen in this line-up, only third annual since the A.C. Entertainment merge.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
