Five Pickle Plates You Should Eat in Louisville Right Now
    Print this page

Pickling is magic--it transforms many foods, from your basic vegetables and fruits to eggs and pancakes. Enjoy the brined pleasures of these five pickled plates you should be eating right now.

    1. Holy Grale
    1034 Bardstown Road
    Louisville, KY 40204
    502-459-9939

Holy Grale has a primo beer list, but the fermentation doesn’t stop there. Holy Grale’s pickled delights are the perfect snack. For $7 you can indulge your salt cravings with a house pickle assortment featuring sauerkraut pancakes and, dare I say it, the best pickled egg in town. If the house pickle plate doesn't fulfill your pine for the brine, try the shiitake sliders topped with kimchi.

    2. Japanese Pickle Plate
    Dragon King’s Daughter
    1126 Bardstown Road
    Louisville, KY 40204
    502-632-2444

    202 East Elm
    New Albany, IN 47150

Dragon King’s Daughter fuses Eastern and Western cuisine not only in their sushi, but every menu item including this seasonal offering. I mix of beets, cucumber, radish, garlic, spicy mango, and kabocha, also known as the Japanese pumpkin. The Kabocha is a rare pickle find making this plate a special one indeed. Get it before it goes!

    3. Decca
    812 East Market
    Louisville, KY 40206
    502-749-8128

Decca's cellar is the perfect place for a pickle plate. It features a dim, slightly chilly atmosphere that makes you feel like all the pickling happened right there, and somewhere near are shelves stocked with pickle jars. This plate has a rotating lineup of fruits and veggies that keep you coming back just to see what’s new: the pickled cherries and raisins are by far the best pickled fruits you’ll find in town.

    4. Against the Grain
    401 East Main
    Louisville, KY 40202
    502-515-0174

Walk into Against the Grain any day of the week and you’re likely to see at least two pork nacho mounds topped with beautiful pink slivers of pickled onion sitting on various tables. Those bright pink onions are only the one element of a lovely mix of veggies, Kenny’s Cheese and various pickled accouterment served with slices of baguette on the smokehouse’s take on the pickle plate.

    4. Garage Bar
    700 East Market
    Louisville, KY 40202
    502-749-7100

A more simple version of the classic, Garage Bar’s plate is on the menu year-round and changes daily.
