Horse racing has made good use of the electronic age from online past performance and handicapping data to games to online wagering. Now you don't even need a computer for all of these, just a smart phone or tablet. Here's a look at some of the must-have horse racing apps. Note: I save my money for betting, so if the app's not free, it doesn't make my list!

Equibase Today's Racing: I use this app almost daily. It allows me to check the entries, results, changes, and schedule for any North American Thoroughbred race track. This is a great tool when I want to quickly check who's entered in a race or the morning-line odds or what time the race will run. I also have access to replays (for a price) on Equibase. Additionally, the app offers a betting calculator to set up exotic wagers and know just how much it's going to cost to add another horse to my Pick 6. Another nice feature is quick access to my Equibase Virtual Stable. The Virtual Stable allows you to keep track of a horse/trainer/jockey with daily emails of entries, results, and works. After adding the name to your stable, you never have to fear that you'll miss your favorite horse's next race. This app is available for Apple and Android devices.
