    The inaugural Unbridled Eve Derby Gala, is a one-of-a-kind celebration benefiting the children’s charity, Blessings in a Backpack, which will be held Friday, May 4, 2012 at The Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville. The exclusive star-studded Derby Eve event will also feature a live performance by legendary country and southern rock performer – Alabama’s Randy Owen and his band, along with DJ 2nd Nature out of Atlanta, intro band The Louisville Crashers and one yet to be announced.

    Founded by Tonya York Dees and Tammy York Day, with Triple Crown sponsor, Humana Vitality and Champion sponsor Southern Wine & Spirits, Unbridled Eve provides the best in southern hospitality and entertainment and is sure to become a mainstay in the storied tradition that is The Kentucky Derby.

    The Kentucky Derby, known as ‘the most exciting two minutes in sports,’ is world-renowned, captivating horse racing enthusiasts across the globe. On Derby Eve, the Unbridled Eve gala will host local and national business leaders, horse racing industry professionals and celebrities from the worlds of sports, music, comedy, film and television. The event features a red carpet entrance, a fabulous cocktail reception with premium specialty bars provided by Southern Wine and Spirits, as well as both a live and silent auction in support of Blessings in a Backpack.

    In February of this year, PEOPLE magazine announced its 2012 charity initiative, PEOPLE FIRST: Help Feed a Child, and selected Louisville, Ky.-based nonprofit organization, Blessings in a Backpack as its official partner. Blessings in a Backpack is a unique, results-oriented program designed to feed elementary school children whose families qualify for the federally funded National School Lunch Program and have little or no food on the weekends.

    Celebrities scheduled to attend The Kentucky Derby and Unbridled Eve will be announced at a later date.

    About Unbridled Eve:

    On Derby eve, the Unbridled Eve Gala hosts more than 700 local and national business leaders, horse industry professionals, and celebrities from sports, music, cinema and television. The Unbridled Eve Gala features a red carpet entrance, fabulous cocktail reception with premium specialty bars, live and silent auction, and live musical performances by celebrity guests.

    About Blessings in a Backpack:

    Blessings in a Backpack is a results-oriented program. This unique program is designed to feed elementary school children whose families qualify for the federally funded National School Lunch Program and have little or no food on the weekends. Better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior, improved health and increased attendance have all been attributed to the success of this program. $80 feeds one school child in our program for an entire 38-week school year. Blessings in a Backpack is currently feeding over 55,000 children in 376 schools across 39 U.S. states and three countries (see all at blessingsinabackpack.org/programlocations).
