    >> Hunter Green
Relive fond childhood memories of Easter egg hunts this April as local artist Jeffrey Scott Holland launches an ambitious art installation project in which he will hide several thousand green plastic eggs in Louisville, Chicago, Cincinnati, Nashville and other surrounding cities. The eggs will be stashed in obvious to absurd places and will contain a variety of Holland’s art, from tiny paintings to micro-sculpture. “I’ve always been intrigued by the process of the scavenger hunt; there’s still a little hunter-gatherer in all of us,” says Holland. >> Stand for the Rose
The Derby Festival’s most popular wine-themed event has always been the Run for the Rose, but the year-old Winefest could be a rival. Many of the state’s 20 wineries will participate in a series of 90-minute tasting sessions that will take place at the Overlook on the waterfront, adjacent to the Chow Wagon. Sessions begin at 3:30, 5:30 and 7:30 on May 2-3 and cost $30. Participants receive a souvenir wine glass. Last year’s event sold out, so it’s best to buy tickets ahead. Derby Festival Box Office, 540-1127.

    >> On Farms and Foals
Susan Starr Richards’ debut short-story collection The Hanging in the Foaling Barn ($14.95, Sarabande Books) arrives in bookstores just as racing season begins in Kentucky. Richards — both a horse breeder and fiction writer — has a plainspoken and engaging style that will delight readers who don’t have previous knowledge of horse farms as well as those with a kinship to country life. Her book is the third in Sarabande Books’ Woodford Reserve Series in Kentucky Literature. Richards will read from her collection on Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m. at Carmichael’s Bookstore’s Crescent Hill location, 2720 Frankfort Ave. www.sarabandebooks.org.

    >> Roll for a Cure
The ingredients for many “Girls’ Night Out” parties include a group of women friends, a round of cocktails, a few feather boas and a card or board game. Now Louisville native Sabrina Hackett has created a Derby-themed dice game to liven up your next get-together. The game, Derby Divas ($60), is sold packaged in a pink-boa-lined hatbox. Hackett designed it in honor of Dr. Kathy Seibert, a fri/files/storyimages/who died from breast cancer in 2005, with the belief that having fun and celebrating closeness are two important factors in fighting cancer. “[Creating the game] is my way to give back to help breast cancer research. It is a serious subject, but we need to be there for our friends to remind them of the fun in life,” Hackett says. Ten percent of sales proceeds benefit breast cancer charities through Hackett’s “Roll for the Cure” campaign. The game is available at the Kentucky Derby Museum gift shop and at www.derbydivas.com.
