Always entertaining as a people-watching, animal-gazing carnival of near-confusion, the KentuckyState Fair (Aug. 16-26) has added a slew of new events to further tickle fairgoers. Here is a sampling of some of the novel acts (visit www.kystatefair.org or call 367-5180 for more information):

    Doggies of the Wild West
Appropriately located in the cowboy courtyard of the west wing, pooches, all rescued from animal shelters, will be channeling their best Roy Rogers, displaying their many talents — from jumping rope to “singing” country music. Howling daily at 2, 4 and 6 p.m.

    Kenya Safari Acrobats
Sometimes referred to as Cirque Africa, these performers hailing from Mombassa, Kenya, put on a nonstop thrill show of human pyramids, fire-limbo dancing and gravity-defying tricks. Catch them in the south wing on the family stage. Aug. 16 at 1 and 3 p.m.; Aug. 17-19 and 25 at 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m.; Aug. 20-22 at 3, 5 and 7 p.m.; Aug. 23 at 1, 3 and 5 p.m.; Aug. 24 and 26 at 3, 5 and 7 p.m.

    Blaszak Tiger Show
The Mirage casino-hotel in Las Vegasis not the only place to look for spectacular felines. Bruno Blaszak’s Royal Bengal and Siberian tigers, featuring the world’s only tightrope-walking member of the species, will be performing in the south wing parking lot. Daily shows at 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.

    Kachunga and the Alligator Show
Straight from the swamps of Floridato the south wing parking lot, this American bushman wrestles barehanded with alligators while educating onlookers about these fascinating reptiles. Daily shows at 12:30, 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.

    Rock-It the Robot
He can dance the electric slide, shake to a hip-hop beat and break into a robo-boogie. No, it’s not Billy Ray Cyrus on Dancing With the Stars; it’s a 9-foot-3 robot with rhythm. Be on guard: He’ll be roving through the fairgrounds daily looking for dance partners.
