Choosing what to wear on Derby Day can be as much of a gamble as picking the winner of the big race. The weather on last year's Derby Day, for instance, included a cool morning followed by sunshine and a deluge in the afternoon.

2004's spring fashions started a winning streak. It seems that we liked the feminine silhouettes and the colorful styles so much that many of us broke out of the all-neutrals boxes and updated our wardrobes. So what's new this season? Embellishments. Full skirts are fuller, jackets are accented with belts, pants include bow sashes. Sill-vivid colors are slightly softer for women, brighter for men. Prints are as popular as ever, though they've become less delicate and more boisterous. You'll see a lot of shades of coral and yellow. Metallics are hot for spring, and it looks like aquamarine is the newest "it" color.
