If you've got the post-Derby blues and are looking for something to do this weekend, you have a couple of music options this Friday night.
First, Dr. Dog comes to town with fellow indie-rockers Deer Tick opening for them at Headliners Music Hall. You probably know that Dr. Dog got a nice boost to their profile when My Morning Jacket took them on tour in 2004. The last time I saw them, they opened for Wilco at Slugger Field and put on a fine show. Their latest release, Shame, Shame was out in April. Tickets are available for $15 at TicketWeb, ear X-tacy, and Wild and Woolly video. Doors open at 8:00 p.m.
Also on Friday, May 7, the Goo Goo Dolls are back on the road this summer promoting their first studio album since 2006, and they'll make a stop at the Louisville Palace for an 8:00 p.m. show. Formed in 1986 in Buffalo, NY, the Goo Goo Dolls have shown some staying power. They first shot to fame in the mid-nineties on the strength of such hits as "Name" and "Iris." Tickets are on sale now at the Palace box office for $35.
