The Louisville Downtown Management District is now in the process of commissioning ten new pieces of public art in conjunction with the LDMD Bike Rack Sculpture program. LDMD Director of Operations Ken Herndon is reviewing portfolio entries that have been submitted by local artists and he will complete his artist selections by December 19th. The sculptures, which must also perform as fully-functional bike racks, will be installed along pedestrian ways in Downtown Louisville by April of 2009. Artists will be paid $2,500 to produce each piece, including materials, so after including several other miscellaneous costs, the total cost of these ten new bike rack sculpture installations will be $30,000.
