Ben Willis and Brent Jordan have always loved working with their hands. “Creating things is just part of who we are,” Jordan says. “Ben attended art school in his home state of Virginia, and I grew up next door to a master carpenter right here in Louisville, who was always willing to teach me the craft in his spare time. We both enjoy the challenge that wood working provides. You start with raw material and are only limited to what your imagination can create.”

Willis and Jordan are the owners of Louisville Farm Tables, a venture that started in Willis’s basement as a fun way for the friends to “hang out and make extra cash on the side doing something we really enjoyed,” according to Jordan. “There is just something so satisfying about creating something beautiful from raw material, something that will be a centerpiece for families to share meals and stories around.”

After a year of working in the basement, Willis and Jordan decided to turn their hobby into a business. The name came easily: “we love Louisville and all it has to offer, and wanted our company to reflect our city, beautiful and full of potential... our tables are inspired from the classic and clean lines of Shaker furniture. We didn't just want to make any old furniture, but we wanted to make furniture that reflected our personalities and taste while preserving the historical character of our pieces by using traditional materials.”

Currently, Louisville Farm Tables offers their tables in three different sizes (five, six and eight feet long) in 30 different base colors and three different tabletop stains. They plan to expand the line into coffee tables and end tables, and launch a heritage line offering tables made of reclaimed wood. Each of their pieces is made from hand-selected knotty pine, to give it that “warm and rustic feel so common in Shaker tradition.”
