The Derby City Rollers are speeding by in their new location this Saturday. In their twelfth game and last home game of the 2012 season, they’ll pit themselves against Little Steel Derby Girls.

Since 2005, the Derby City Rollers have made a name for themselves as Louisville’s first flat-track female league. Just four years later, they became an official member of WFTDA, the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. They play a couple games a month, usually one away game and one home game. Right now, the team has over 30 players, and with names like “Anita C. Blood” and “Lay’em Lola”, along with the requirement to have your own health insurance to be on the team, you know it’s going to be a fun, wild time.

What are some of the other requirements, you wonder? You must be a legal adult, provide your own gear, attend at least two practices a week, and complete an eight-week bootcamp. If the game Saturday gets you riled up and ready to skate and punch, there’s an information meeting the next morning at the arena where you can get more information on how to join their team and attend a skate clinic – all you need is to be at least 18, and bring a mouth guard and proof of insurance.

Clumsy? Can’t go to the skating rink without staying in that center bubble? Derby City Rollergirls also need non-skating volunteers and referees.

Tickets for Saturday’s event are $9 in advance, for sale at brownpapertickets.com, Haymarket Whiskey Bar, and Comic Book World. Tickets are $11 at the doors, which open at 7, an hour before the match starts. The Rollerdome is now located at 9851 LaGrange Road.
