The Derby City Rollergirls rolled over Northeast Ohio on Saturday night in their final home match of the season.
Louisville's women's flat track roller derby team routed their counterparts from Arkon, Ohio 141-39 at the Manslick Rollerdrome.
"I think our skills were very similar, but I just think their strategy was not where ours is right now," Derby City coach Mel O'Drama (a.ka. Melissa Allgeier) said.
With the victory the DC Rollergirls improved to 3-3 on the season, surpassing the team's total of two wins in each of the last two seasons.
And Derby City, which closes out its 2010 campaign July 10 at ROCK (a team from Central Kentucky) did it without one of its best players. Jammer Lil' Rage of Sunshine was in the hospital with kidney stones.
However her replacement, first alternate Trick Pony, filled in well. With an elusive skating style that she would exhibit all match long Trick Pony, who had more than one trick up her barely-there sleeves, got Derby City off to a 3-0 lead on the first jam of the game.
"We needed it because we didn't have one of our best players," Allgeier said of Trick Pony's contributions.
Led by Trick Pony and Cardinal Sin the Rollergirls built a double-digit lead by the fourth jam of the match and rolled from there. Cardinal Sin's two grand slam - in which she passed every member of Northeast Ohio's team twice - midway through the first half gave Derby City a 43-15 lead.
Cardinal Sin closed out the half with a 10-point jam as Derby City led 74-17 at intermission.
The onslaught continued in the second half in what was the final home match for Derby City Rollergirl Lil' Bo Teeps.
