David Gray is an English singer and songwriter who still bears the torch of tortured millennial souls.  His breakthrough album White Ladder produced the monster hit “Babylon” – and launched him on a career path that has kept him on the road and in the studio since then.  Known for his meaningful and emotional live performances, Gray is one of the most enigmatic performers and heartfelt songwriters in the industry today.  Hence his concerts regular stir his is already loyal fanbase into an emotionally strung-out frenzy as soon as their favorite British troubadour takes the stage.

Gray will be performing tonight at The Louisville Palace.  He is currently on tour promoting his latest album called Mutineers.  The album has so far launched two singles, “Back in the World” and “Gulls”, the latter of which has a video you can find on Gray’s You Tube page.  As is the case with all of Gray’s albums, Mutineers, has been hailed by critics and fans alike – making him one of the few artists that both can agree on.

If you aren’t making it out for David Gray tonight, you should shoot to the other side of town to New Vintage where Whitey Morgan will be on stage.  Cutting his teeth in Flynt, Michigan – Morgan is a disciple of classic country artists like Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Merle Haggard – writing songs about hard times, hard women, and hard drinking.  It’s the down on your luck, beautiful tragedy that is the honky-tonk lifestyle.  He will be performing songs from both of his albums, the self-titled Whitey Morgan and The 78’s, and his debut album Honky Tonks and Cheap Motels.

If you wanna catch some classic country tonight head over to New Vintage.  Tickets are $12 and the doors open at 8:00 PM.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
