Daddy-Day-Out can be tedious or borderline disastrous if the right activities aren't selected (and the right equipment isn't packed). Picture: Science Museum at nap-time, without snacks--I know you've been there--to Meltdown City. Two exhibits currently running at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft are sure to be hits and stress-free for both the kiddos and their Superdaddy: "Planes, Trains, and Superherous--Toys from Kentucky Collections," and the "Dia de los Muertos Altars."
"Planes, Trains, and Superheroes" is sure to please even the biggest kid with more than 100 vintage games, gadgets, and toys. A few featured pieces include vintage petal cars and trains, and Kentucky poet Frank X. Walker's collection of over 200 black superhero action figures, music idol figurines, and posters. You'll be able to explain the glory of Jimi Hindrix (or Notorious B.I.G.) to wide-eyes, Daddy-o. The exhibit runs from October 23rd- December 31st and costs $6.00 for adults while children are FREE!
Check out the "Dia de los Muertos Altars" on the way in or out to quench the Halloween fever. Various altars, including one dedicated to the victims of the Haitian earthquake, Frida Kahlo, and an open altar where guests can bring an object to honor their deceased loved ones, will be featured through November 12th. Give the kiddos another perspective on Halloween, one that doesn't involve a sugar binge. If you're impressed, come back on November 5th s from 5-10 p.m. for the First Trolley Hop's party at the Museum which will feature flamenco dancing, live music, food, face painting, and sugar skull/tissue flower workshops. The Party is FREE!
The Museum is located at 715 West Main Street and open from 10-5 during the week, 11-5 on Saturday. Adult admission is $6.00 and children under 12 are free. Pack a few snacks and a pack of wet-wipes, and Daddy's Day Out will be a success.
