Accusations fly, with or without proof, in the Arthur Miller-created “The Crucible,” which Shelby County Community Theatre will open this weekend as part of the Upstairs at 801 series.
“The Crucible” will go on Sept. 18, 19, 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. each night. Matinees are to happen Sept. 20 and 27 at 2:30 p.m. each day. All performances are to go on at 801 Main Street in Shelbyville, IN.
Tickets for each show are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (age 62 and over) and $10 for students. Due to limited seating, reservations are recommended and can be made by calling Shelby County Community Theatre (SCCT) at 502-633-0242.
“The Crucible” is based on the Salem witch hunting and trials that took place during the late 17th Century. As a father wonders why his daughter is so ill, the town begins to suspect that witchcraft is at play. What follows are a series of accusations and naming people suspected of participating in witchcraft whether there is evidence or not. This leads to many interrogations, people being arrested and all-around fear.
Arthur Miller created the production, which Dr. Jack Wann directed for Shelby County Community Theatre.
“The Crucible” is being performed as part of SCCT’s Upstairs at 801, a series that allows for works to be performed in an intimate and up-close setting.
Following “The Crucible,” SCCT will head back to the mainstage for the children’s show “Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr.” That show will open on Oct. 2. More information on both shows can be found at the SCCT website.
