The Eastern Parkway to Bonnycastle Avenue corridor of Bardstown Road is a prime example of why the Highlands neighborhood is a favorite street scene for eclectic dining, drinking and shopping spots. Here’s a walking tour of some of the best attractions.

• Aiming to “Keep Louisville Weird,” ear X-tacy has the most diverse music collection (and crowd of browsers) in the city, with everything from alt-country to rap, heavily sprinkled with selections from local artists.

• A gallery whose interior design is almost as intriguing as the pieces it showcases, Objects of Desire Gallery specializes in “wearable art” and jewelry from national, international and emerging artists.
• Known as a popular pit stop for many out-of-town rockers, Guitar Emporium has a collection that could easily take up any string-picker’s afternoon. If you ask nicely, they’ll even let you play one.
• Seviche boasts the inventive and much-sought-after Nuevo Latino cuisine of chef Anthony Lamas served in an arty and intimate setting.
• With a long list of interesting (think spinach and zucchini) toppings and 100 brews and microbrews to choose from, Za’s Pizza Pub can keep any pie craver well-satisfied.
• Tucked between two storefronts, the Hideaway Saloon is easy to overlook but worth a visit, especially for bluegrass and acoustic fans. Their Jagermeister Tap Machine keeps the popular shooter chilled to 5°F.
• If your sweet tooth gets the best of you, Geli Cakes offers authentic Italian gelato. Plan on enjoying it as you stroll, though, because the interior has limited seating and there may be a crowd.
• Stopping at La Bodega for late-night tapas or eating a romantic Spanish meal at neighboring De laTorre’s will treat your taste buds and your eyes to a glimpse of life on the Iberian Peninsula.
• The home to well-loved local ales, porters and malts, Cumberland Brews also has a menu that goes well beyond the usual bar fare. Pay attention to the decorative details inside — the bar taps are all made of blown glass.
