    A lot of people spend a lot of money on the Kentucky Derby, but we’re not talking about $150 hats or $500 seersucker suits. We’re talking the money bet on the horses.

    There were $165.2 million in total wagers bet on Kentucky Derby day last year. Of that, $112 million alone was bet on the Kentucky Derby. On-track wagering accounted for $23.4 million and off-track wagering made up $141.8 million. This total was 1.5 percent above that of the previous year.
