The Oldham County Public Library is getting into the concert game Colorado's celtic flavored The Muses will perform at a fundraising event hosted by the Library on August 22. The event also serves as part of the celebration for Green Month; a month long event in August, featuring educational programs designed to raise awareness of conservation, energy efficiency and environmental issues.
“Green Month” will promote the new Main Library opening in January 2009. The new 30,000 sq. ft. library is being constructed with many green features and is applying for LEED certification with the United States Green Building Council. When certification is complete, Oldham County will have the first certified LEED public library in Kentucky.
The concert will take place August 22, 2008, at Smith-Berry Winery in New Castle. Tickets are $25 for adults and include a barbecue dinner with entrance to the concert. Tickets for children aged 6-10 are $10, and children 5 and under are free. Smith-Berry wine will be sold at a cash bar during the event. Dinner begins at 6:30. Local musician Paul Martin will open at 7:00 p.m. and the Muses concert will begin at 8:00 p.m.
The Muses are based in Jamestown, Colorado, and tour nationally. They currently have three CDs out. As well as being accomplished vocal musicians, they also play a variety of instruments including the bohdran, concertina, harp, hammered dulcimer, psaltery, pennywhistle, and fiddle. They perform traditional ballads and new material in the Celtic tradition. “We are so excited to bring them to this area,” remarked Library Director Susan Eubank. “This is a great opportunity to support your local library and enjoy a fun family evening.”
