Just over a week from now, the great Chris Pierce will be in town at Uncle Slayton’s to promote his new album, released today, “I Can Hear You”. Chris last visited Louisville is 2008 when he was able to enjoy the Derby, the food, and local music and he is looking forward to his visit. Chris took a few moments to speak with me about his visit to Louisville, the new album, and his experiences as a musician.
Pierce’s first experiences of music were in school and church choirs and eventually helped him win the Ella Fitzgerald Scholarship for Jazz Studies to USC. A native of Los Angeles, Pierce found himself surrounded by the music industry’s best performers, writers, and composers. He took the opportunity to jam with the best, including B.B. King, Colbie Caillat, and Al Green. Peirce found himself in a great place with a good momentum and furthered his musical career by stepping out on his own. Three full length albums, “Walking on the Earth”, “Live at the Hotel Café”, and “I Can Hear You” are now in the collection.
Pierce describes “I Can Hear You” as, “eclectic and really celebrates the human spirit. Fun stuff; deeper stuff. Anyone who listens to it in an open space will like it”. Recorded over a period of six months at three different studios in LA, Pierce spoke highly of his experience while putting the album together. Chris’ friends who helped him on this journey from his manager to his photographer, Pierce says, “Working with a great group of people. Tight knit little team I can call them every day and they love the music”. Chris views his independent approach to music as, “a very organic way to work with people”.
