Heartwarming nostalgia dances in our quixotic hearts even at the thought of stepdaughter/stepsister Cinderella, who has the loving audacity to dream a better life; to dream that no matter her tattered, humble beginnings, she can dare to go to the ball and make her wishes glitter to fruition. What better way to celebrate a weekend of appreciating the one that makes your emotions soar than with a riveting ballet interpretation of Cinderella?
Choreographer Val Caniparoli’s Cinderella has the tremendous vision to update the dreamers’ favorite sparkling account, retold in a 1950s setting. With an original jazz orchestration twist from the genius of legendary Richard Rodgers’ songbook and an original score by Ron Paley, expect the Louisville Ballet’s take on Cinderella to have a bebop, blues, swing, tango infusion.
Delightful surprises will be waiting for audiences eager to delve into the beloved story. Both blossoming, new lovebirds as well as tender, old soulmates will no doubt enjoy this imaginative, fresh flair for the Disney fairytale we think we know.
