    Bit to Do

Formative teenage years are filled with angst and uncertainty. Can you remember the rush of your first kiss? The first grade you received on an exam that temporarily toppled your self-confidence? Physically and emotionally, you fundamentally transform on a daily basis. All while facing overwhelming pressure to fit in on the social totem pole. The mid-transition between the innocence of childhood and an ambiguous adulthood feels undeniably challenging. Rather than romanticize youth, CenterStage confronts head-on the twisted path teenagers must face.

Following the 2 p.m. musical performance of Spring Awakening, this Sunday, August 17, join the dialogue for local teens and parents to openly talk about the reality of living as a teen in 2014. Therapeutic professionals will be guiding the conversation. Both reserved and open personalities can rest assured, as it will be a helpful discussion geared for all types of people. An approachable, advantageous option for the more timid, CenterStage also offers participants the option to ask questions or share comments anonymously.

You can read Louisville.com’s rave review of CenterStage’s Spring Awakening here. This musical serves as the ideal preface to such an important discourse. We need to raise community consciousness regarding pressing matters, including risks for suicide and teen pregnancy. The best route to take is an informative one.

Remember: Sunday, August 17th at 4 p.m. at CenterStage at the Jewish Community Center. Buy a ticket for you and your teen. What better way to have the ultimate “talk?” Choose communication over ignorance and apprehension. Fitting that CenterStage's motto aspires to "Open Minds, One Act at a Time."
