In 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and a multitude of civil rights supporters marched in Washington, D.C. from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial. At the Lincoln Memorial, Dr. King gave his now famous and iconic I Have a Dream speech.
On Monday, January 21st, our nation celebrates the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Also, Monday, January 21st, is the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
In Louisville, there’s an opportunity to celebrate both events at the Muhammad Ali Center.
The celebration is free and open to the public and begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Center’s Auditorium.
For those who wish to tour the exhibits as well, admission can be purchased separately.
The event schedule will be:
- 10:30 a.m. – Webcast of Presidential Inaugural musical performances
- 11:30 a.m.- Webcast of Presidential Inauguration
- 12:00 p.m.- Screening of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s I Have a Dream speech
- 12:30 p.m.- Continuing the Dream discussion led by select Muhammad Ali Center Council of Students Representatives
- 3:00 p.m. - Screening of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s I Have a Dream speech
So, the area schools are out and it is too cold to do anything outdoors. Why not grab the family and visit the Muhammad Ali Center for a little bit of history and a whole lot of community?
