Take it from someone who has had to explain to his wife more than once why some woman named “Sallie Mae” keeps showing up on the caller ID… The hardest part of college can simply be paying for it. (Well, at least if you only have a journalism degree.)
According to a report from the U.S. Department of Education - National Center for Education Statistics, 66% of college students in a recent year received financial aid. On average, each one of these students borrowed over $9,000. Considering it was tough for me and most in my dorm to grasp the finer concepts of laundry day freshman year (not to mention talking to girls…), it is safe to say we never really wrapped our heads around having to pay someone 10 grand after our collegiate foray.
So long story short: A little extra guidance before signing on the dotted line couldn’t hurt for anyone headed to a campus of higher education this fall.
To this end, the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) will have folks on hand to shed a little light on how to obtain the funds one needs to go to school this Tuesday at the St. Matthews Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library (3940 Grandview Avenue).
