Cabin is one of Louisville’s favorite bands.  In the fine tradition of VHS or Beta, Houndmouth, and My Morning Jacket – Cabin is postured to be the next big band to burst out of Louisville and on to the national forum.

They have been rolling around town for years – playing show after show at venues across the city, the state, the region and all over the south.  Perfecting their live performance and expanding the breadth of their ever growing fanbase with each and every show the band plays.

The band came together when frontman Noah Hewlett-Bell graduated college with a degree in visual art.  The group began inadvertently when Hewlett-Bell composed an atmospheric soundtrack to an exhibition of paintings he had been working on.  The music was intended accompany the paintings in an attempt to convey the colors and textures, in a very visual and visceral sense, of what the paintings were trying to display.

Soon music took over Hewlett-Bell’s passion, and his focus shifted from paint to music and soon the band’s first album “Govern the Good Life” was released.  Two years later they followed it up with the EP “I Was Here.”

The next three years would see a line-up change and evolution of sound before Cabin finally put out their third release “Among the Rectangles and Changeable Parts” and their fourth albums “It is What It Looks Like” in 2013.  The band who hopefully is working on a new album, and perhaps they’ll be previewing some new stuff this week when they perform at Zanzabar.

Cabin will be performing September 4th at Zanzabar.  The show will begin at 9:00 PM and tickets are still available for $10, 100% of proceeds will go to Camp Quality Kentuckiana.  The Photons, Phourist, The DeLoreans, and Maximon will also be on the show.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
