Honey is one of those rare substances that makes just about everything magical; a subtle and delicate sidekick of amber glory that accompanies both the sweet and the savory with a gentle boost of love. Pancakes? Of course. English muffin? Duh. Lamb? Slather it up! Liquid gold shining sweet and decadent; a slow, sultry syrup that makes the simplest of dishes indulgent. I’m a fan. And while I have yet to baste a book in the lovely natural confection, honey and writers apparently go hand-in-hand. Good fortune!
This Friday, January 27th, the Mary Wood Memorial Library will host their Honey of a Day presentation, a day-long beekeeping festivus designed to unite wordsmiths and honey-love in celebration of our busy, buzzing flying friends (and their sweet contribution to our plates and palates). In conjunction with other participating authors and beekeeping experts, award-winning writer, Abigail Keam, will talk on the role of beekeeping in her life, as well as her popular mystery series.
Keam, a native Kentuckian, is the author of the critically-acclaimed books Death By A Honeybee and Death By Drowning, both featuring Bluegrass-bred beekeeping heroine, Josiah Reynolds. Honored with distinctions such as the Gold Medal Award for Best Mystery Sleuth as well as for Reader Favorite, Keam’s honey-licious mystery series has been hailed as “quirky, funny and clever”. Keam, a full-time beekeeper and producer of all-natural honey/beeswax products, is also a member of the Bluegrass Beekeepers Association and has been awarded numerous accolades for her both her craft and her goods.
So what do beekeeping and wordsmithing have in common? Abigail Keam, my friends - and perhaps also a knack for always making life sweeter. Stop by the Mary Wood Memorial Library and enjoy the rich heritage of Honey of a Day; the presentations begin at 9am and end at 2pm. This event is free and open to all who wish to savor its delights.
The Mary Wood Memorial Library is located at 1530 S. Green Street in Glasgow, Kentucky
