Louisville’s technologically savvy community comes together once a month to enjoy: craft beer, mustaches and tech talk. The group is called the Build Guild. Organized locally by Todd Budnikas and Bryan Volz, the Louisville chapter is one of 16 across the nation.

Unlike many networking or industry groups, that exist largely to market to one another, the Build Guild is designed around some simple principles:

    ·         Keep the events casual; meaning no presentations

    ·         Meet on the same day of the month at a consistent location

    ·         Provide an open invitation to any and all web professionals and interested individuals

    ·         Discuss any web based topics, from new trends in programming, to what Google may currently be up to

    ·         Enjoy an adult beverage if you would like to

The Build Guild got its start in Louisville in October of 2010. Prior to this time Budnikas organized a group called Refresh. While both Refresh and the Build Guild have similar goals, Budnikas felt that the more informal structure of the Build Guild would yield an environment better suited to conversation and cohesion.  It seems he was correct. Although the group only meets formally once a month (the third Tuesday of every month at the downtown BBC-636 E. Main St.—at 7PM), members meet informally for lunch, and communicate daily via the Build Guild’s social media presence.

If you are looking for an approachable group of people, who also have a combined wealth of knowledge about all things internet, the Build Guild may be for you. Opportunities exist to: learn, debate, land work, find the online services that you need and meet new people. Regular meetings have between 12 and 20 attendees according to Budnikas.  On any given day you can find the members interacting on:

    ·         Facebook

    ·         Twitter

    ·         LinkedIn

Having just celebrated its first year of existence, the Louisville Build Guild is looking forward to continued growth and more opportunities for its members. Check out their social media profiles above if you are interested in finding out more about them. Better yet go see for yourself, their next event is February 21. You will find yourself amongst a group of individuals who embrace the web and where it is going.
