British rocker Robyn Hitchcock arrives at Headliners Music this Thursday. His performance promises to be unique; he possesses a decades-long cult following more than breakthrough mainstream success. In fact, Robyn Hitchcock has over 30 albums of work from which to choose material for this show.
Many of the young readers here have likely never heard of Robyn Hitchcock, and I can’t say what drew me to his music growing up, except that it was different. I had trouble even thinking of how to classify his music for this preview. Thankfully, these days I can stop scratching my head and just ask the internet, where I found it described it as “psych folk” or “jangle pop.”
Whatever it is, songs like “Balloon Man” simply get caught in your head. If you don’t believe me, listen here. I suspect this quirky, talented musician promises, in the words of Monty Python, to show us something “completely different” on Thursday.
The performance is described as partially seated on the Headliners calendar, and features opening act by Kentucky native Kelsey Weldon. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show is slated to begin at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
