The Louisville Downtown Management District will sponsor ten, one-of-a-kind bike rack sculptures to be installed in the public way within the boundaries of the LDMD in site-specific locations.  The sculptures will provide original art for the senjoyment of the general public and be functioning bike racks.

They will be the latest addition to a nationally recognized program of bike rack art that has been recently featured in the Boston Globe and USA Today, among other publications.

Each artist will be given $2500 to produce the piece, including materials - $1250 up front and $1250 upon completion and installation.  Total cost of the new sculptures will be approximately $30,000 including installation costs.

Artists will be chosen from portfolio entries in December, 2008.  Sculptures will be installed by April 1, 2009.

The LDMD introduced its Bike Rack Sculpture Program in 2001.  Now the largest program of its kind in the nation, ten new pieces will be added to the 24 now in place.  Over 30 cities from across the country have inquired about our program.  See www.ldmd.org <http://www.ldmd.org/>  - under streetscape - for photos and a map of existing sculptures.
