Best Local Music Videos of 2015
    Print this page

2015 gave us solid singles, albums, shows, and music videos. Here’s what Louisville.com noted as some of the best in local music.

    Howell Dawdy -"Summer Creams"

Shot by Drew Osborn & Colin Garcia/Edited by Drew Osborn & Howell Dawdy

Katie: Howell Dawdy has a lot of great, hilarious videos, but hte production quality and the shorts game was really amped up with this one. My favorite part is the cream filled water balloon fight. Disgusting. Yet, I still want a milkshake every time I watch it.
Michelle: Someone please explain to me how we didn't get this video to go viral. That is my goal for 2016 - to make this video known to the entire Internet. The production quality is perfect — and why didn't I ever realize the great need for an emergency can of evaporated milk in my life?

    White Reaper - "Pills"

Katie: This is a vivid and strangely relatable account of “crazy”. Unlike "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest," where pills are controversial, White Reaper's mental state needs a double dose. "Pills" is terrifying and kick-ass. Esposito face plants into a plate of eggs, talks to himself in a field of flowers, digs his own grave and crashes a pool party sporting Docs and a hospital gown covered in bodily fluids. I'm into it.
Michelle: I love music videos follow a plot, so I dig this one. Also, I'm a fan of those who'll get a little messy for their projects.

Frederick The Younger -"You Don't Lie"

    Directed by Colin West McDonald

Katie:The animated sequence is a fresh take on a local music video. It reminds of Xeroxed band flyers. Excited to see more from this group.
Michelle: There's not a ton of action in the video, so it's a surprise to me how captivating it is. It makes you literally see things in a new way and kind of forces your brain to interact different with the image of a band playing music. I'm in love with this song, so the video has been played in my office many, many times recently.

    Dr. Dundiff - "The Glitches"

    Video by Chris Smith

Katie: With a film noir steaze, this is easily my favorite video from Dr. Dundiff.

Twin Limb - "Don't Even Think"

Shot and edited by BreakerBox Productions/ Lighting by Garret Crabtree and Ryan Daly

Michelle: I really wish the last bit was the whole video. That being said, I can get over it because I'm just really glad Twin Limb is putting out some new stuff.

    Houndmouth - "Say It"

    Directed by Matt Fulks

Katie: This nonlinear account of something somewhere between David Lynch’s, “Twin Peaks” and Noah Baumbach’s, “Frances Ha”, functions like a live painting to me. A real thinker.
Michelle: I think it's time someone told everyone to stop losing their shit over "Sedona," and start paying attention to Houndmouth's other, better music. I don't completely understand the story they're telling in this video, but I WONDER ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME. Who is this jockey? Where did that guy even find a black and white t.v.? Also, a phone booth? I need answers, and I will continue to watch this video until I find them.

    Quiet Hollers - "Mont Blanc"

Directed and edited by Daynier Adan and Nick Goldring

Michelle: These guys have put out so many videos this year, it all had to build up to one great video. All the ones before this have been just a little weird (Cote d'Azur, though), but this one was perfect. The song encompasses a family's entire story, and the video complimented that well.

    New Bravado-"I Don't Mind"

Katie: This sci-fi short tells the story of bandmate, Seth Thomas, being consumed by a wily heap of cassette and VHS tape. It’s fun a fun little DIY piece. Plus, it’s rad that the lighting in the video stays true to the New Bravado color scheme. Nice packaging.

Jack Harlow - "Ridin' Round Town"

Shot and edited by Sick Kid Productions

Katie: Jack Harlow’s videos never stray too far from one another. They highlight the youthful rapper, his city, and yet they are consistently interesting. I watch them over and over.  It might be because Harlow’s presence is so keen. I particularly like this video because I feel there’s a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor happening. The seventeen year old rapper is filmed “ridin’ round town”, despite lyrics, on a bike not behind the wheel.
