Kentucky has never known Ben Sollee as just a musician. While his cello skills and interesting style of music have captivated people across the world, Sollee has also used his microphone for more than amplifying music. He has always used that opportunity to amplify the issues he feels most strongly.
On October 6, Sollee will take an evening to talk about how the independent musician has been affected in an ever-changing technological world in a conversation called Digital Storytelling: Trends and Opportunities for the Independent Musician.
The event will take place at the Main branch of the Louisville Free Public Library on October 6 at 7 p.m. It is a ticketless event but registration is required Attendees can register through LFPL.org or can call (502) 574-1644.
A native Kentuckian, Sollee has composed for stage and screen at home and abroad. In partnership with the design group Public Works Collaborative, Ben helped create a massive eco-art and tech installation called Livestream. The sculpture was recently awarded a grant from the NEA and will be installed this fall in Lexington, KY. His upcoming record, Steeples, will see a return to the basic ingredients of Sollee's music: cello, voice, and storytelling.
