In the spirit of Thanksgiving, it is timely to reflect on our troops and be thankful for their service to the nation, whether at home or abroad.  A number of those troops took part in a program that ended just a few weeks ago that provided outings to service men and women recovering from injuries suffered in Iraq.  As part of this program, 343 service men, women and family members from Fort Knox took advantage of the Belle of Louisville's offer of a free cruise and lunch on the historic steamboat.  The free cruises were offered from June through the end of October in coordination with Fort Knox officials.

The Belle initially provided 300 free tickets to be distributed through program coordinators at Fort Knox.  However, the cruises proved to be so popular that an additional 43 individuals were accommodated.  Funding for the cruises was donated by Waterfront Development Corporation board members, staff members, and Belle of Louisville staff.

"We were honored to have the opportunity to give back a little something to those who have given so much to us," said WDC President David Karem.  "We tried to make sure that each soldier and family member realized how very much we appreciate their service and sacrifice for our nation."
